Mr. Daniel Kovacic, MM
Daniel F. Kovacic has served as the Minister of Music and Organist here at St. Valentine Parish since April 2011. Daniel is originally from Brownsville, PA, and attended Geibel Catholic High School, Connellsville, PA. It was during his high school years where he learned to love sacred music. He began his ministry at his home parish, the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Brownsville from 1999-2002 and the Historic Church of St. Peter, Brownsville, PA, from 2001-2005, and 2009-2011.
Daniel is a graduate of Seton Hill University '07 with his BM in Music Education and Sacred Music. He studied voice with Dr. Curt Scheib, organ with Mr. Edgar Baird Highberger, and piano with Ms. Nancy Gorinski. During his college years, he took a position at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, North Huntingdon, PA from 2005-2009.
After teaching in the public schools, Daniel felt the calling where he needed to go back into ministry. It was St. Valentine where the Lord called him to serve. Along with serving the various music ministries, Daniel completed the Master of Music program at West Virginia University '13 in Choral Conducting, studying with various conductors: Dr. Kathleen Shannon, Dr. Mitchell Arnold, Mr. John Hendricks, Dr. Jeffry Blake Johnson, Mr. Timothy Campbell, and Dr. Jeffery Redding.
In his time at the parish, the ensembles have grown in skill and spirituality. He oversaw the installation of the new Walker/A.E. Sterner organ in 2013, along with the building of new choral risers, and the addition of a third octave of Malmark handbells.
The music ministry continues to be a positive beacon in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, and is always looking for new members to offer up their talents to the Lord.
In 2012, Daniel served on the Liturgy Committee for the National Pastoral Musicians (NPM) National Conference in Pittsburgh, PA. In 2014, Daniel began serving as a member of the NPM National Chant Steering Committee. Daniel is currently the Associate Director of Recruitment for the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Pastoral Musicians and also serves as the Vicariate Two Liaison.
On his spare time, Daniel likes to do various outdoor activities such as stay in shape, garden, and shoot sporting clays and skeet. He also has a Cocker Spaniel named Johann. Daniel is happily married to his wife Isabelle, and they reside in South Park.
