Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, formerly known as "Eucharistic Ministers," are an integral part of parish life. Under the Code of Canon Law, "an acolyte, or another of Christ's faithful deputed", in certain circumstances, to distribute Holy Communion. The term "extraordinary" distinguishes such a person from the ordinary minister of Holy Communion. Ordinary ministers of Holy Communion include bishops, priests, and deacons.
The extraordinary minister's function is to distribute Holy Communion, either within Mass or by taking it to a sick person, when an ordinary minister cannot hold out this function. At our parish, we have Extra Ordinary Ministers of Holy Communion that regularly visit the home-bound with the Eucharist.
If you are interested in this ministry, please call the parish office.
