Adult Formation

New Adult Formation Opportunities!!

We tend as Catholics to “educate children and youth” and then after Confirmation we “graduate” from religious education. Yet, as adults we have many questions. It is time for our parish to develop a diverse and robust adult formation program. Your Director of Faith Formation and Pastoral Associate are working to develop a variety of opportunities for our adults to engage in fruitful discussion about our faith, world affairs, and our lives in Christ.

We are also interested in your input. We want to ensure that we are meeting the needs of those who are seeking a personal relationship with Jesus Christ? Jesus cannot be just another subject that we teach about, rather Jesus is the whole spiritual good of the Church.

Our goal in Adult Faith Formation is to provide not just education in the faith to our young adults, parents, and seniors, but to help people to bridge the gap from “seeker of faith” to a committed relationship with Jesus; to be welcoming and invite them into a deeper faith. We must remember that “religion” and “faith” is not the same thing. We are not just a Church of rules and teachings; we are a Church of believers in Jesus willing to live out His teachings and have a personal relationship with Him through prayer and discernment on a daily basis, and to pass that faith on to others. So, please share with us your needs and concerns.

Currently, these series are planned over the few months:

Little Rock Scripture Study develops and distributes Bible study materials for adult Catholics in parishes and small faith communities who want to continue on their journey of faith.

Little Rock Scripture Study develops Bible study materials which:

  • help people to read, study and live the Word of God.
  • encourage people to grow in personal knowledge of God.
  • help people experience a greater sense of Christian community.
  • promote and teach Roman Catholic biblical scholarship.

At St. Valentine, we are currently studying the Book of Psalms via this wonderful program. Sessions will run from May 16-June 21, 2017.

This will be followed up by a fruitful study of the Gospel of Luke. Dates will be announced at a later time.

Adult Vacation Bible School: July 10-13, 2017

Are you happy? It may be the wrong question. Most of us think we are relatively happy, while at the same time knowing that we could be happier—maybe even a lot happier. Ordinary people and the finest philosophers have been exploring the question of happiness for thousands of years, and theories abound. Join us at our Adult Vacation Bible School as Father Molka leads us in a discussion on how to find true happiness.

Father will feature the book, Resisting Happiness, by Matthew Kelly. This is not a book of theory. Resisting Happiness is a deeply personal, disarmingly transparent look at why we sabotage our own happiness and what to do about it.

Upcoming Events for Advent 2017:

In A Biblical Walk Through the Mass, we will explore the biblical roots of the words and gestures we experience at Mass and explains their profound significance.  In this study you will come to know and understand the Mass like never before, leading you to a richer, more fruitful worship experience.

Upcoming Event for Lenten Season 2018:

In breathtaking and high-definition cinematography, the truth, goodness, and beauty of Catholicism are illustrated in a multimedia experience. We will journey with Bishop Robert Barron to more than 50 locations throughout 16 countries significant to our Catholic tradition. Be illuminated by the spiritual and artistic treasures of this global culture that claims more than one billion of the earth's people. We can learn in depth what Catholics believe and why. We hope to discover the full meaning of the faith.

More news and details to come. Stay tuned.
