Saint Valentine School
So Very
Special
Student of the Month,
October,
2008
The St Valentine School PTG is proud to announce that
Miranda Koenig is the SVS Student of the Month for October 2008.
Congratulations to Miranda and her family. A $25 Giant Eagle gift
certificate has been presented to the 8th Grade in Miranda's name.
Other students nominated were:
-
Emily Nedzesky, 8th Grade
-
Julia Rodaitis, 8th Grade
-
Sarah Wray, 8th Grade
-
Jessica Hirsh, 7th Grade.
Here is an excerpt from one of Hayley's nominations:
On October 11, Miranda received a
medal for 20th place out of
243 Varsity Girl Runners. She has medaled 3 times in the Diocesan Championship
in the 5 years she has been running. The very next day, from 8:30 until 2 PM (not
just one shift, but ALL combined shifts) she helped wash cars and sell baked
goods for the St Val Student Council. Just tonight, she enlisted help from Julia
Rodaitis and Natalie Piagessi to stay after school for Forensics, then decorate
Mr. Pericht's room, and brought them to our house to bake him a "car" cake for
his 60th birthday tomorrow. He was very helpful with the car wash. (Last month
she had 3 Student Council members over to our house to bake and decorate 120
cupcakes for the entire re school to celebrate the Blessed Mother Mary's
birthday.) She serves as an Altar server and just served a funeral Mass
yesterday while in school, which is sad and hard to come back into school
without carrying some of that sadness with you. She also turned down a
babysitting job Sunday night because she was scheduled to serve Mass at 6:30,
Oct 19. Because
there were so many different reasons (won medal, car wash, decorated room, baked
cake, served funeral, served Mass instead of babysitting) this month to nominate
her, I felt that she was deserving of the award for the month of October.
Here are excerpts for some of the other excellent
nominations:
One day I forgot to bring my mathematics book home with
me. I returned to school and the doors were locked. (This 8th grader) helped me
into the building and offered to help me find my math book. The 1st grade
classroom was locked so she said she would find someone to open the door. We
found Mrs. Cluskey, then (this student) took the key and we went back
downstairs to 1st grade.
She a 7th place medal finish for our St Valentine Road
Warriors at the XC Diocesan Championship out of 224 Varsity Girl Runners.
I really appreciate the fact that she was trying to get
him to follow the rules, even though she knew she would possibly be dismissed by
him. Peer pressure in eighth grade is a real threat! She went out of her comfort
zone to try to get this boy to cooperate. Having students who are willing to
stick their neck out in the name of respect is what makes SVS... So Very Special
students.
Thank you to everyone who participated. Nominations are
accepted up to the last school day of each month. The winner is announced
at the next month's PTG Meeting.
