FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Margaret Myron @ (412) 833-3010

A professional art studio with all the tools of the trade has brought out the most extraordinary talent from students in the Middle School program at St. Valentine School. It began on the first day of school when students began examining the techniques of modern artists and practicing their own pieces of work. Today, the walls of the room are adorned with first attempts that would make any master proud.

Andrea Cencich and Mary Ann Rodaitis are the two artists in residence responsible for bringing out the creativity of the St. Valentine School students. A native of Chile, Mrs. Cencich has lived and studied in Europe.  Mrs. Rodaitis has been working in the arts recreationally for years. Both work under the direction of teacher Mrs. Mary Pakutinskas.

In addition to working with the students during regular class hours, Mrs. Cencich and Mrs. Rodaitis have been working with a smaller group of students on special pieces for an upcoming Art Auction sponsored by St. Valentine School and scheduled for Saturday, November 15, 2003. Ross Galleries of New York will present the selection of professional art, and the students’ contributions will be part of a Chinese Auction. Student work includes everything from landscapes to seascapes and wild animals to wild flowers.

Throughout the year, students will explore different styles of drawing.  They will also learn about folk art from around the world and different uses of painting media.  The students will also be involved in working with metal embossing and fabric painting.

For more information or for a tour of the updated Art Room, please contact Mrs. Diane Dickson, principal of St. Valentine School, at (412) 835-3780.
