President's Message

I hope everyone enjoyed a Happy Thanksgiving! I want to extend a very Merry Christmas to all members of the Saint Valentine family!

Best wishes and congratulations to our sister organizations-----Athletics - as they begin a new season of competition and Long Range - for a successful Night at the Races.

I encourage all members to look at the volunteer schedules, found in the brown envelope, for the cafeteria and the playground. These volunteers are truly “unsung heroes” who perform a vital function in ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of our children on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. My sincere thanks to all of you. I encourage all members to make it a point to find and thank these individuals for their efforts.

Also unsung are the label collectors, newsletter typist, newsletter copier, and brown envelope stuffers. (See note below).

Thanks to Dee Dee for a great job in conducting the membership drive this year.

I apologize for not thanking you in previous newsletters.

Thanks to Kathy W. for your work on the school directory.

Thanks to Donna W. and crew for a successful completion of our major fund raiser. Many thanks to all those who helped Donna on Friday and Saturday.

Thanks to the Marini's for spearheading the Sportswear sale in November.

NOTE: I can not say enough about all the other chairperson(s) of all PTG committees. Again, all members should review their school directory and the page listing committee chairs. Take a moment during this Christmas season to thank these individuals for their efforts on behalf of our children. These people truly make our PTG function smoothly.

Additionally, my thanks to the spouses and children of all volunteers, for your continued patience and understanding.

Please contact Mary Ann Rodaitis to volunteer to help with Santa's Workshop and Lindy Eiben to volunteer to help with Santa Brunch. Please step forward by contacting these ladies to help with set-up and clean-up and any other activities. Christmas is a time of giving. Give that valuable commodity of time.

PTG Reference Section in School Library

There is a copy of the tax exempt certificate available for use on PTG purchases.

I encourage all members to stop by and check out this reference section, as it contains information relevant to the functioning of your PTG.

PTG Meeting

CHAIRPERSONS MUST SUBMIT A MONTHLY REPORT, EITHER IN PERSON OR IN WRITING, FOR EACH MONTHLY MEETING.

Members or others must contact me prior to any meeting if you wish to have any new business items placed on the meeting agenda especially where a request for funding is involved.

The November meeting lasted approximately seventy-five minutes. A quorum was present at the time voting on issues was the order of business. Thank you for attending.

The next PTG meeting is scheduled for December 14, 2000, 7:30 P.M. at Newman House. Baby sitting service will be provided.

As always, you may discuss any of this with any other PTG officer or me.

Thank you.

BABY SITTING

Remember that sitters are available to watch your children in the Preschool during all PTG Meetings. Call Lorraine B. if you have any questions.

SCHOOL PROGRAMS

The Animal Rescue League program was rescheduled for yesterday, November 29th. Until December 6th, we will be collecting items for the animal shelter's wish list which should already have come home with your child. Although we may be busy these days with holiday plans and shopping, we hope that you will take a bit of time to try and find some recyclables around your house that this organization may use. Some of the items needed are as simple as newspaper, shoeboxes with lids, and old towels, and blankets.

A version of the "Christmas Carol" will be presented this month through the Children's Museum. The show is scheduled for 1:30 P.M. on Monday, December 18th. Parents are always welcome to join us for these programs.

YEARBOOK

Please remember to send any school related photos to me through Matt in Room 8-15. We will be sure to need photos of the numerous upcoming holiday events such as the Santa Brunch and the Christmas musical. This is a prime time for the cameras to be in use!

“APPLES FOR THE STUDENTS” PROGRAM

This year's Giant Eagle's “Apples For The Students” collection period began on October 8, 2000 and continues through February 24, 2001. This year our goal for Giant Eagle's “Apples For The Students” program is to collect $550,000.00 in register tapes.

Of course, the more register tapes we collect, the more our children's learning environment will be enriched through our partnership with Giant Eagle.

If we reach our goal of $550,000.00 in cash register tapes collected, the PTG and Giant Eagle, on Rt. 88 and Brightwood Roads, will sponsor a pizza party for the entire school, Preschool through eighth grade.

Please, please, please continue to send your Giant Eagle cash register tapes dated October 8, 2000 through February 24, 2001 in to school with your child each week. Let us keep the momentum from last year going!

Thank you for your support!
Lillian B.

SANTA BRUNCH

With the "Visions of Sugarplums" and Santa Brunch just a few weeks away, the committee is busy making last minute arrangements. If you are available to help decorate Frawley Hall on Friday, December 9, please just show up anytime after noon. Helping hands would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all who responded to our request for contributions towards the Chinese Auction. A special thanks goes to the eighth graders who have volunteered to help run the children's games.

We hope this year's brunch will, once again, be an enjoyable way to start your holiday season. We are looking forward to a fun filled day for everyone!

SCHOOL SECURITY

A subcommittee of the Liaison Committee is being formed to address school security. In light of today's environment, we want to determine if improvements to school security should be recommended. We will look at current security practices, what other schools are doing, and what funds may be available. Our efforts will result in a recommendation to the PTG. Please contact Lori P. if you have an interest in joining the subcommittee or if you have supportive information. Thank you.

FAMILY COSMIC BOWLING PARTY

Please mark your calendar for a family Cosmic Bowling party at Village Bowling Lanes on Friday evening, February 23, 2001, from 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Details will follow.

~MERRY, MERRY CHRISTMAS!~
