The name, Oneight (pronounced “one eight”), comes from Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” These were the last words Jesus spoke to His disciples to prepare them to receive the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and these are the words Jesus speaks to the candidates as they prepare to receive a fuller out-pouring of the Holy Spirit at their Pentecost: Confirmation.
While Oneight is the name of our Confirmation Class, the series we use to assist in the formation of our confirmation candidates called Chosen. It uses a series of dynamic videos and a workbook to engage the teens and encourage them to grow in their faith.
This year in addition to our primary series, Chosen, we will be using as a supplement Matthew Kelly's Decision Point to provide further activities and resources to ignite the fire within each candidate as they approach their Sacrament of Confirmation
Our model at St Valentine's in non-classroom model; communicating the faith in a youth group environment that will includes icebreakers, small group discussion, activities, prayer, fellowship and media presentations. The Chosen series will specifically focus on the necessary information for Confirmation preparation and 8th grade diocesan requirements, and Decision Point will be provide fun activities and media to reinforce these requirements.
