The Music Ministry of Saint Valentine Catholic Church in Bethel
Park always welcomes new members, of any age, to share in the
celebration of our faith through the Music Ministry. There are
numerous opportunities within our Music Ministry family to share
your gifts of time of talent. For instance:
St. Valentine Adult
Choir
The St. Valentine
Choir sings a wide variety of
sacred music with special emphasis
on our rich Catholic heritage. If
you do not know how to read music
or would like to learn the
fundamentals of singing, please
come and join us. Many of our
members read music together and we
will learn.
The St. Valentine
Choir sings a variety of Liturgies
throughout the year including Holy
Days, special events and
concerts. We will be preparing
special music for Advent,
Christmas, Holy Week, Triduum, and
various anthems throughout the
Liturgical Year along with the new
implementation of the Roman
Missal.
Come on Wednesday
evenings beginning at 7:00 pm and
give us a shot! We love to sing,
have fun, and join in wonderful
Christian fellowship.
St. Valentine
Handbell Choir
The St. Valentine
Handbell Choir may be seen
throughout the year playing
special Liturgies. Usually, this
group plays at the same Mass as
the St. Valentine Choir.
Different Liturgies that we play
are Music Ministry Weekend, Christ
The King, Christmas, Easter, and
Pentecost Sunday along with
various concerts. Reading music
is not a necessity. We read music
together and if you would like to
learn, you will definitely do so.
All you need to know is how to
keep a steady beat. Come join us
in a great spiritual journey of
music ministry.
St. Valentine
Schola
The St. Valentine Schola is open
to teenagers and adults. New
members are required to audition
and prepare a solo work. Also,
new members will be required to
demonstrate melodic sight reading
and rhythm sight reading skills.
The schola will sing moderate to
difficult choral literature while
preserving the traditions of the
Roman Catholic Church through
chant and polyphony. The schola
will also sing contemporary works
from the best music coming from
the pen of today's composers. The
group participates at various
liturgical celebrations throughout
the year in addition to the annual
Christmas/Epiphany Concert. Many
of the members are also members of
the Saint Valentine Adult Choir
and or Cantor Ministry. Rehearsals
are scheduled at the convenience
of the group.
Schola Cantorum
(Cantors)
As a cantor, you
sing certain specified parts of
the liturgy by yourself, and as a
facilitator you assist the
assembly’s singing as
needed. Ideally, any type of
singing should sound like part of
a continuing prayer offered by
everyone. Lots of opportunities
abound for increasing the pool of
qualified cantors: Funerals,
Weddings, Weekend Liturgies, and
Holy Days.
Beginning cantors
are required to attend a workshop
conducted by the Director of
Music. You will be paired with a
veteran cantor to help you learn
the ropes and make the experience
prayerful.
Instrumental
Program
If you play an
instrument or sing, please
consider offering your gift of
talent during an occasional
liturgy. Busy schedules are
understandable. Therefore, we
will work around what works best
for you. We welcome people of all
instrumental talents. Young
instrumentalists must have two
years minimum experience of
instrumental instruction from a
private teacher or your music
educator at school. Young
instrumentalists will be required
to rehearse with the Director of
Music to help strengthen their
skills for leading the
congregation.
Instrumentalists
must demonstrate musical
competence to participate in the
celebration of the liturgy.
Instrumentalists must also be
available to participate in major
liturgical celebrations throughout
the year, including concerts.
Resurrection Choir
This choir sings
for all parish funerals. No
special rehearsals; just come 30
minutes before each funeral to
become familiar with the music.
For men and women who are
available during the day, this is
a wonderful way to serve our
parish families in their time of
need.
Heartbeat (Saint Valentine
Contemporary Ensemble):
Heart-beat!, in the past, has
provided music for the Sunday
evening liturgy. Due to more
recent scheduling conflicts,
Heartbeat has not been able to
participate in weekly liturgies.

Heart-beat!, Patrick Connell can

Heart-beat! participates in the
annual Christmas/Epiphany Concert.
